Welsh Wizards return to PSL!

Squash Wales has entered a team into the PSL for the first time in a number of years. This is excellent news for Squash players and spectators alike as it gives Welsh based fans an opportunity to see top flight squash back in Wales. Tickets for the first home fixture are now on sale. For more information follow the Wizard on Twitter or read the press release here. A fixture list can be found here.

Upcoming marker’s course open to all clubs

As discussed at the AGM, there are a number of dates available for Roy Gingell to run a referee/marker’s course and the earliest proposed date (before the Winter season starts), is Monday 10 September.

Venue to be decided when we know how many, and from where, attendees are likely to come.

Please let Nick know by Monday 16 July how many participants you are likely to have from your clubs and we can finalise the arrangements.

Newport SRC summer league update

Newport SRC is again playing host to a summer leagues season open to members of the club and other Gwent based players. Its a handicapped affair which ensures parity of play and some very lengthy games!

Competition is hotting up after two rounds with the Allstars led by Abby Hicks just edging a lead over the ‘Port. Stand out encounter last night saw Lewis Poole tussle with John Proctor. Lewis’s handicap was minus 40 to John’s minus 28, netting John a twelve point advantage in each set. Despite this and despite excellent retrieval work from John, Lewis ran out eventual winner in straight sets but not before some truly excellent squash from both players.

Thanks to Greg Tippings for organising and its great to see so many players from around Gwent taking part in competitive squash in the off season.
