April saw the concluding fixtures the Spring session of the 2017/18 season and as is usual, there were a number of teams promoted and relegated.
Gwent Division 1, was a a competitive affair around the mid-table. However, Caldicot A were too strong for most teams in the division and finished comfortably in in the only promotion slot on offer. Having lost only one fixture all season to third placed Risca A, Caldicot yo-yo back into South Wales Division 3 East when play resumes in September. Congratulations to Calvin Till and the team; we hope the cup kindly donated by Greg Tippings brings you many years of happiness 🙂
Cwmbran A finished in second spot, benefiting from Cory Kearns rapid development at number 1 string. At the bottom-end of the table, it was a tough season for both Abertillery and Risca B who were both relegated to Gwent Division 2.

In Gwent Division 2, two promotion spots were on offer and these were clinched by first placed Newport F and second placed Monmouth C. The two teams locked horns all season for the victor’s spoils with Newport F narrowly edging their north Gwent rivals 258 points to 251. Congratulations to both.
At the other end of the table, lower ranked representatives from both clubs fared less well with Newport G and Monmouth E in seventh and eighth spot respectively. Both sides can be considered largely developmental so I’m sure we will see players from both squads progressing nicely in the coming seasons.
